The Yuba Water Agency Board of Directors has approved a significant $8.3 million low-interest loan and a $7 million grant to support the construction of a 5-megawatt woody biomass-to-energy plant, the Engeman Camptonville Green Energy Project, near Dobbins in Yuba County. This innovative project, led by the Camptonville Community Partnership in collaboration with Engeman Energy and Biomass Power Corp, will process unmerchantable woody material from forest restoration efforts in the Yuba River watershed. By converting this material into clean energy, the project will enhance forest health, reduce wildfire risks, and create valuable local jobs. Backed by additional funding from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and California Energy Commission, the plant is set to break ground in late 2024 and start generating electricity by March 2026.
